If you have not heard of this movement there is a simple reason for it.  It is a new movement.  Currently only three men doing this.  Our goals is to see this take off and become a world wide movement that will change the very atmosphere we live in.  Please read on and choose to join the movement.  Thanks.

The first piece that needs to be addressed is what is a fast.  Through out history fasting has been one thing and one thing only: abstaining from food.  There are times where someone will abstain from beverages as well but those are short due to the need for us have water or die.  I think it is three days.   For the sake of this movement fasting will be abstaining from food.  I see a great need for dedicated and disciplined disciples of Christ to forsake this world and all it has to offer.  One of the strongest means we have for doing this is fasting.

Fasting is not only about abstaining from the eating of food it is also about prayer and meditation.  If you fast with out prayer and meditation then you are only starving yourself without spiritual cause or reason.  It is a must to involve much prayer and meditation with your fasting to find the full spiritual benefit to your fast.   I will say this with bluntness we will never see the change in our world if we do not regularly and with tenacity fast, pray and meditate.

Over the years I have heard from many people that they are not able to fast.  I will challenge you medically you are wrong (unless there is a specific medical condition).  Your body can easily go one day with out eating food (please drink liquids).  The problem is if you are not use to this it can be very uncomfortable and you can even feel a bit nauseated.  I would suggest to please push through and remember what the U.S. Marines say “Pain is only weakness leaving the body.”  When you fast you are telling your body that it is not in charge and you are making it weak.  Your body does not want this it wants to be in charge and wants to be strong.  Remember what Paul said in 2 Corinthians 12:9-11.  Our weakness provides for Christ strength.  Now that being said often during the fast all we feel is the weakness but after the fast we will feel the strength of Christ.  Christ will strengthen us to accomplish His work and His purposes (not our own).    Paul in 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 states we need to beat our bodies into submission.  This way our bodies are slaves for Christ not doing what ever it wants to do.

None of this is possible without fasting, pray and meditation.  Please join us and grow this movement.

I am currently in a group of guys who are fasting on Wednesdays.  There are three of us and we pray and fast together for each other.  The concept is there is power in groups.  I am telling you this to encourage others to do the same thing.  Here is what we do:

We fast Wednesdays and over the phone we pray.  We all live in different cities so it is not easy to get together but with modern technology it is not hard to pray together.  We pray for each other and our needs which we share they are personal and very private.

I believe that in the church we have gotten gluttonous and we have found many ways to fast (other then abstaining from food) that are not in the scripture.  We have substituted dietary practices for fasting (Daniel Fast) and made just as good fasting from TV and electronics.  I will say this that there is value in those things but they are not a substitute for a Biblical Fast.

I want to address specifically something that has become largely accepted in current Christian American culture.  The Daniel Fast, the important piece of this is that it is not a fast it is a dietary way of life.  I do understand the value of it and I would encourage any who want to live with that dietary standard to do so.   Please do not use this as your fast.  I think we need to knuckle down and get back to the hard discipline of fasting, prayer and meditation.

We have grown so rich and successful here in America that even our poor have an epidemic of obesity.  We do not lack food even though we believe that we need more and more.  We find no satisfaction with what God has supplied (thus the gluttony piece).  I believe that if we are to be a part of the great awaking that is coming we need to be strong spiritually.  Remember when Johns disciples asked Jesus about why His disciples do not fast (John 9:14-17) He said it is not their time for that but it is coming.  I realize that many people believe that Jesus never commanded His followers to fast.  I think when He said we will fast that He intended for us to fast (thusly a command).  He never said how long a fast or how often but His intention is most definitely that we should (notice the moral imperative) fast.

I am hoping to see a movement spread across America and even the world where every Wednesday people fast.  Everyone finds a small group of folks that they can fast with and together we will change the world one fast at a time.   This will allow us to see an atmosphere change in this world and a tide which will start slowly but gain speed and become part of the Great Awakening that is soon approaching.

Please if you are going to join me in this Wednesday Fast movement please respond using the form and let me know.  Also let me know how many folks you are getting with you and the city where each person is. This way we can track where everyone is and eventually I will take time to make a map that will show a pin in each city that will show the number of people fasting.  I look forward to seeing and hearing what God is doing through this fast day in your life.  God Bless.
